PVC-U valves, PVC-U fittings and PVC-U pipe

:
Developed in 1930 in Germany, PVC-U (rigid polyvinyl chloride - unplasticized) is obtained through the polymerization process of vinyl chloride monomer. With the presence of chlorine in the PVC-U molecule, a resin is obtained which guarantees excellent performance in terms of thermal stability, chemical and mechanical resistance up to temperatures of 60 °C.

The diversity of formulations obtained through the addition of suitable additives and stabilizers, make PVC-U the most versatile of plastic materials, allowing it to adapt to different applications and needs in the most varied fields of use of fluids under pressure.

PVC-U represents one of the most economically viable solutions in the field of thermoplastic and metallic materials to solve the problems encountered in the transport of industrial corrosive fluids, and in the distribution and treatment of water in general (PVC valve, PVC fittings and pvc).

Properties of PVC-U:
The fundamental reasons for this preference are to be attributed to the peculiar characteristics of the resin, of which those below can be mentioned.

Good chemical resistance
PVC-U resins guarantee excellent chemical resistance against most acids and alkalis, paraffinic/aliphatic hydrocarbons and saline solutions. Not recommended for use in the transportation of polar organic compounds including various types of chlorinated and aromatic solvents. PVC-U resins also offer complete compatibility in the transport of food fluids, demineralised water, drinking water and water for purification, according to current national and international standards. PVC-U resins are also characterized by their low oxygen permeability and low water absorption (0.1% at 23 °C according to ASTM D 570).

Good thermal stability
PVC-U resins guarantee good thermal stability in the intermediate temperature range between 20 °C and 50 °C and find their typical use in industrial and aqueduct applications, guaranteeing performances of excellent mechanical resistance, discrete rigidity, reduced coefficients of thermal expansion and high safety factors in the service. The PVC-U compounds also have remarkable characteristics of resistance to combustion, the flame, in fact, ignites at 399 °C and persists only in extreme conditions: if the oxygen concentration is 2 times higher than the atmospheric one, or in the presence of a flame from an external source. Trigger temperature: 399°C. Oxygen Index: 45%. UL 94 class: V0. Thanks to the reduced coefficient of thermal conductivity (λ = 0.15 W/m °C according to ASTM C177) the use of PVC-U resins in the transport of hot fluids guarantees limited heat loss and a virtual elimination of condensation problems.

Good mechanical resistance
The excellent mechanical characteristics combine good impact resistance with the ability to withstand operating pressures in the order of 4 – 6 – 10 – 16 bar at 20 °C.

Duration over time
PVC-U resins have a high value of the circumferential breaking load (Minimum Required Strength MRS ≥ 25.0 MPa at 20 °C) and allow to obtain extremely long life times of the installations, without any particular physical-mechanical decays.

PVC-U valves, PVC-U pipe and PVC-U fittings
Our PVC-U systems have been selected for the construction of  millions of euro industrial plants because they are capable of safely transporting numerous acids, alkalis and chemical concentrates, without the risk of corrosion or environmental pollution.

Aliaxis offers a complete range of pipes and fittings for chemical cold welding or threaded, as well as PVC ball, butterfly, diaphragm, check and auxiliary valves.
